Urban Pilates believes in an Authentic, Systematic and Integrative approach to Pilates. Authentic Pilates instruction honors the original teachings and intentions of Joseph Pilates. Systematic instruction teaches a prescribed system of Pilates exercises that lead clients from the Beginner System, through the Intermediate System, and eventually to the Advanced System. Urban’s approach to Pilates instruction is rooted in a method that teaches you the original exercises in the unique order. This way you learn undiluted authentic Pilates that maintains the integrity of the method. Urban believes by teaching you a progression of exercises where one exercise or workout does not exist in isolation from the next, you can learn Pilates easily, safely and attain results quickly. Our Instructors will also integrate multiple apparatus in each workout to get you that full body workout.

A Pilates session is about 55 minutes in length and is composed of a combination of apparatus and matwork. Urban Pilates offers private and semi-private sessions. Sessions can be scheduled on the hour from 7am to 7pm.  To schedule a semi-private session, please call (503) 505-9203 or email us. Private Sessions
New clients begin with a series of private sessions. This initial group of privates is important in setting the basic foundation for Pilates work. Through careful one-on-one teaching, clients learn the order of the exercises, the principles of Pilates, equipment setup, and the system of exercises that is right for their body and their personal fitness goals. Private sessions allow the instructor to develop a customized system of exercises to address each new client’s needs, goals, and previous injuries. More advanced clients benefit from private instruction to improve precision, add new exercises to their Pilates workout, work on a specific issue or on rehabilitation from injury.

Semi-Private Sessions
In a semi-private session, three to four clients work together with an instructor. These sessions are lively and motivating, and when done 2-3 times each week they deliver visible and lasting results. Many clients take a mix of semi-private and private sessions. Semi-privates require a minimum of two participants and can be cancelled due to low enrollment. If your semi-private is cancelled, you can join another semi-private at a different time or take a private session instead. Scheduling a semi-private must be done through the front desk with the approval of the instructor. Because three to four clients work together in a semi-private, we’d like to make sure they’re a good match. In a semi-private session it’s not always possible to request an instructor as these sessions are assigned to teachers based on experience and seniority.

Semi-Private Duet Sessions
For clients who want to keep their semi-privates to two participants only, the DUET semi-private is offered.

Wall Unit Sessions
Wall unit sessions consist of the wall unit-specific system of exercise (springs, bars, resistance training) and matwork to give you a full body workout that delivers visible and lasting results. You will work through the whole repertoire of the wall unit system in this rigorous workout. Wall unit classes also provide you with the opportunity to continue your focused authentic Pilates training with the energy and cost benefits of working in a small group setting.

Getting Ready for Semi-Privates or Wall Unit

If you think you want to start semi-privates or utilizing the Wall Unit, let your instructor know. We’ll make sure that you are prepared for this new step. You can transition when:

- You know the names of the exercises in your program
- You know the order in which the exercises are performed
- You know how to set up your equipment and can work independently

Mat Class
Proper matwork technique is the foundation of Joseph Pilates’s work and are designed to supplement your Pilates regiment. This 55 minute class will develop core strength and flexibility  of all levels, beginner to advanced.  We keep class sizes small which allows personal attention and ability to provide any necessary modifications.
